Surgicryl PGA Sutures
Surgicryl PGA is an absorbable, synthetic suture with exceptionally good tissue compatibility. Surgicryl PGA is synthetically manufactured from polyglycolic acid and therefore only causes minimal tissue reaction. This suture by SMI is coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate to reduce the sawing effect and tissue trauma.
Surgicryl PGA is mainly used in general surgery, but also in obstetrics, visceral surgery and for ligatures.
Please Note: The product must be used within 3 - 4 months after opening.

Advantages
- Minimal tissue reaction
- Excellent tissue support
- High tensile strength
- Supple tissue drag thanks to special coating
- Very easy to handle
- Excellent knot security
- Reduced capillary action
Absorption
Resorption occurs gently through hydrolysis - as opposed to natural sutures which are decomposed by phagocytosis.
- Completely absorbed after 60-90 days
- Approximately 50% of tensile strength remains after 21 days
Applications in Veterinary Medicine
- Soft tissue adaptation and/or ligature
- General surgery
- Skin closure
- Visceral surgery
Surgicryl PGA should not be used in neurosurgery, cardiac or vascular surgery. Due to its resorbable nature, it should not be used for tissue adaptation requiring long-term suture support. Caution is also advised with animals that have delayed wound healing (e.g., due to a weakened immune system).
